So it makes sense that Logic Pro/Logic Pro X and Garageband only read AU plugins as these are Apple products too.ĭespite its exclusivity, the AU plugin format provides very low latency and stability (and therefore faster processing) for users. And the format is part of the Core Audio provided by macOS – the AU format is part of the macOS operating system! Therefore AU plugins are made to work with macOS specifically. More specifically, the tech giant made the AU plugin format themselves. The AU plugin format – which stands for Audio Unit – is Apple’s proprietary audio technology. Since 1996 it has gone on to become the industry standard plugin format.īit depth: what it is and how it impacts audio quality So, what are AU plugins? Now, though, they work with both Windows and macOS. At that time VSTs only worked with Windows. Steinberg released the VST format in 1996 with their DAW Cubase. In practice, you can use VST plugins in DAWs such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, Cubase, and so many more. “VST instruments” and “virtual instruments” are used interchangeably! Whether for virtual instruments or effects, the VST format is the most widely known plugin format.Īs a matter of fact, “ VST instruments and plugins” has become the common way to discuss “ virtual instruments and plugins“. In short, they are the most popular plugin format there is. VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology and they’re compatible with most DAWs except Pro Tools.īut you can use VST plugin instruments standalone without a DAW, whether it’s a VST synthesizer or a sample-based VST intrument. The difference between the plugin formatsĪt this point, you’re probably asking yourself “surely there are reasons we have all these plugin formats that don’t concern operating systems?”Īside from AAX, the biggest difference between the VS and AU plugin formats was the fact that macOS only read AU plugins for the longest while. Why? Well, let’s dive into the specifics… Many Mac users make music with Logic Pro X, so AU plugins are their go-to plugin format.Īnd the AU format remains the standard plugin format that Apple systems read, despite how they can read VST plugins now too. Now though, macOS can read VST and AAX plugins too. Once upon a time, macOS could only read AU plugins and not VST. But Pro Tools is the only DAW that can read this format. However, AAX plugins are compatible with Windows operating systems too. Unlike AAX and AU plugin formats, the VST format is pretty much universal. The common plugin format for Windows is VST/VST3. That brief introduction shows you that the battle of the operating systems – Windows and macOS – affects musicians and music producers as it does the general consumer. Plugin formats for different operating systems As a result, there are different types of audio plugin formats. In other words, audio plugin formats are associated with different DAWs and operating systems. The three most common audio plugin types are VST, AU, and AAX. However, Avid’s DAW Pro Tools can only read AAX plugins. And even Apple’s macOS could only read AU plugins until not so long ago! In any case, we can control these plugins with our mouse and keyboard or a MIDI controller.īecause different software companies make their trademark DAWs, they often have different specifications from others.Īnd because different big tech companies – Apple and Microsoft – make their own operating systems, they also have their own requirements.įor example, Apple’s DAWs – Logic Pro and Garageband – can only read the AU plugin format. But most DAW plugins also allow you to run them in standalone mode – no matter the plugin format. So, in digital audio, an audio plugin is a software tool that you can insert into your host DAW software – a Digital Audio Workstation.įurthermore, there are a few types of Digital Audio Workstation plugins. In general terms, a plugin is an extension or additional software tool that you can install into a host software.

Not only were pumpables the first ones to recommend correctly fitting flanges (after being told 4 wrong sizes from different lactation consultants and spending so much money), but the genie advanced and liquid shields are the only way I've ever been able to pump 5 ounces (which for me was always in the realm of impossible). More people need to know about this pump! Throughout the day, my Spectra would normally pump on average around 3-3.5 oz, but I get 4-6 oz with the Genie Advanced! It is unreal the difference! I wish I’d know about Pumpables before purchasing my Spectra… I really would like to try the SuperGenie and use the different programs you can load to the pump. I was skeptical because I didn’t think I would see a difference and really only purchased the Genie Advanced for portability, but MAN what a difference! For reference, I yield about 2.5-5 oz per pumping (depending on the time of day), but I get at least 3 oz with the Genie Advanced during my evening pumping session (which is my lowest) and I only get around 2.5 with my Spectra S1. Despite having the correct sizing for my Spectra, I get SO MUCH more milk from my Genie Advanced. ![]() After sizing with Pumpables, I found out I actually needed size 17mm inserts (which I then purchased for my Spectra). I originally was using the 24 mm flanges that came with my Spectra S1 pump and my lactation had given me size 19mm inserts. I had no idea how important it was until I started looking into getting the Genie Advanced. That is how strong this pump is! I also really enjoy the liquid shields and am grateful that Pumpables is adamant about correct sizing. Fro reference, I use the level 8 vacuum on cycle 54 on my Spectra S1 and I only have to use the level 3 vacuum on the 1st cycle with the Genie Advanced. I LOVE the size and power of this portable pump. Oh how I wish I had a Genie from day one! Not only is the price very reasonable and comparable to other high-end brands or pumps, but the quality is great! I had never heard of it until I started following Tamari Jacob (aka The One With The Pump) and she raved about it. I have used a Spectra S1 per recommendation from many of my friends. I wish I had started with Pumpables from the very beginning! I gave birth 01/16/22 and have breastfed and pumped since then. ![]() The flange length is also shorter than I’m used to so that might be why I need the smaller size? Not sure if I will order them because the liquid kit is great but it’s just more pump parts that I don’t need since I can use all my spectra parts no problem. The liquid flanges are great but I found even though I’m a 21mm with my spectra I need the smaller size since the silicone is very flexible. The settings are easy to use & I feel like these settings empty me faster! Highly recommend if you’re a spectra pump user, you will NOT be disappointed! ![]() I read reviews saying the Pumpables have a similar vibration to the spectra which I respond really well to so I was excited to give it a try! I’m obsessed! My output is great, if not better than my spectra & I love that I can use this pump with any flanges! It’s lightweight to wear on my neck with the lanyard & small enough it doesn’t take up a lot of room in my backpack. I’ve been using the spectra S1 & Elvie all of my pumping journey but going back to work I wanted a more portable pump that would also allow me to use traditional flanges. ![]() It has only an 8-line by 40 character display and 32k of RAM and a CMOS 8085 processor that runs at less than 4 MHz, but it has a built-in clock which, by the way, is not Y2k compliant as it has a hard-coded "19" in mask ROM for the first two digits of the year! By knocking together a simple program in the computer's built-in BASIC language I could fairly easily generate a time code that was timed using the Model 100's internal clock. Made in about 1983, this thing has been around for a long time. In the end, I settled on something much more retro and comparatively low-tech: An old Radio Shack Model 100 Laptop. In thinking about this, all sorts of things came to mind from hacking a program with a Raspberry Pi to "key" the 60 kHz signal to programming a PIC with an attached GPS receiver to generate a modifiable time code to even using a PC to toggle some sort of hardware line. The next step was to generate some time code. Connecting the output (DC) terminals of this full-wave rectifier to a couple meters of wire I now had a coil that I could wrap around the clocks being tested to induce into them a 60 kHz signal: A quick test with a portable ultrasonic receiver and coupling loop that I have used in the past to listen for WWVB and other longwave signals verified that this portion was working properly. Rummaging around, I found a small-ish (4 amp) bridge rectifier (but I could have used 4 ordinary diodes) and in testing it with an oscilloscope, noted that its diodes were plenty fast enough to take the 30 kHz sine wave from the audio generator and produce a nice, pulsating DC 60 kHz waveform out the other end. Setup for simulating the WWVB signal using a computer-controlled relay (in the Model 100),Ī 30 kHz signal source and a full-wave bridge rectifier. That's what full-wave bridge rectifiers are for! Since this audio generator could produce about 5 volts (at 600 ohms impedance) of nice, stable audio signal at 30 kHz I just needed to double the frequency. ![]() Frequency stability is important as the bandwidth of these receivers is just a few Hertz and not only would it be rather tricky to set a free-running oscillator exactly on-frequency, it would also be unrealistic to expect it to stay within +/- 1 or 2 Hz over a period of several days without a bit of extra care. Since the suspicion based on the previous observations was that it seemed more likely that these clocks were "unhappy" with the date with which they were presented and were subsequently unable to set themselves to the correct time, I decided to generate my own local version of the WWVB 60 kHz signal to test this theory.įor a signal source I didn't have handy a synthesized 60 kHz generator (I could have built one, though) but I did have a synthesized audio generator built into a service monitor that could produce a 30 kHz sine wave. The NIST is NOT responsible for this clock's The Augpost - linked here - discusses the construction of an active "repeater" to relay signals from an outdoor antenna to indoor clocks so that they may reliably receive the signal from an LF time station such as WWVB - but it will NOT solve the problem with the affected clocks! If your clock will properly set itself ONCE after removing the battery and replacing it - but it does NOT set itself again, despite the "antenna" symbol, it is a defect in the clock itself!īecause the affected clocks are rather old, it is perhaps unreasonable to expect the manufacturer to "make good" on the clocks' defects, but I would expect that they do know by now the true nature of the defect and would post information accordingly.Ĭomment: This problem may also affect Skyscan models 8675 as well. There have been anecdotal reports by some customers of the affected-model clocks that some representatives of the manufacturer suggest that they are misconfiguring them and/or a change in WWVB's signal format is to blame for their clock no longer working. In a previous post - link I commented on how several radio-controlled clocks of one particular model (Skyscan model 86715) seemed to have stopped working properly in the summer/fall of 2012 in that they would synchronize to the proper time and date only once - just after the battery had been installed - but never again. Tabby Cat Personality and BehaviorĮvery tabby is a completely unique individual, so this is a just basic generalization. Just like people, their upbringing and environment can do much to shape their personality. Tabbies do have their own personalities, however. The most distinguishing characteristic of a tabby is bold striping on the fur accompanied by an M shape on the forehead.ĭue to depictions of cats such as Morris, The Cheshire Cat, Garfield and Heathcliff, the tabby is often thought of as slightly mischievous and overly fond of food.Ī more fair assessment of tabbies could be found in Jenny-Any-Dots of the musical Cats who only sleeps all day because she's been very busy all night and spends her waking hours being kind and affectionate to others. This is how we received the milky ashy shade. While Soft Summer color has been created by the addition of black and white color (cold by default), here in this conglomeration, we have added yellow (warm) + black (cold) + white (cold). Here we obviously receive a warm undertone predomination. So, as you see in the example, Soft Autumn’s color has been created with an addition of brown (which is warm by default), and if you add brown to any basic color, it will enhance the rich and deep warmth of the shade. We all have heard that Soft Autumn and Soft Summer palettes are “muted down,” but many people still find it difficult to understand why that happens. I took the actual palettes from these seasons and picked one color that has been broken down into a specific conglomeration they consist of. Let’s distinguish the differences between the actual type of Soft Autumn and Soft Summer.
